ABOUT US
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in the school setting provide indirect, direct, consultative and evaluative services to students identified with a communication disorder negatively impacting their educational performance in the general curriculum.
SLPs work collaboratively with other members of the educational team including parents and families to determine the most appropriate and effective therapy services for their students.

REQUIRED LICENSURE
In order to work in the school setting, SLPs are required to hold and maintain two licenses from the following licensing entities:
1) The Ohio Speech and Hearing Professionals Board (OSHPB)
2) The Ohio Department of Education (ODE)
To earn the two year license from the OSHPB, the SLP must complete their Supervised Professional Year (SPE) under the supervision of a certified, licensed speech-language pathologist. Ali Solberg, Supervisor of Speech-Language-Hearing Services at the ESC, provides the supervision service for district SLPs in the region. Generally, the new SLP also completes their Clinical Evaluation Year (CF) concurrently earning the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). The CCC is equivalent to the National Teacher board certification for educators. In addition, SLPs must hold a valid pupil services license from the Ohio Department of Education which is renewable every five years.
