Suicide Prevention Support for Schools

In alignment with Ohio House Bill 123, all schools are required to provide students in grades 6–12 with at least one hour or class period of suicide awareness and prevention and one hour or class period of violence prevention education each year. These lessons must utilize evidence-based programs approved by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) to ensure high-quality, effective instruction.
Our Suicide Prevention Coordinator partners with districts to provide expert guidance and hands-on support for implementing and sustaining suicide prevention efforts.

How We Can Help...
  • Ongoing coaching and consultation in suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention
  • Guidance on ODEW-approved programs that meet HB 123 requirements
  • Support in developing or refining suicide prevention protocols, templates, and screening processes
  • Guided coaching/ work sessions to strengthen school-wide implementation
  • In-person staff training on prevention, use of screening tools, and response protocols

Together, we can help ensure every school has the knowledge, systems, and confidence to protect student well-being.

Non Suicidal Self Injury Protocols

Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) is a growing concern among adolescents, especially as awareness increases through social media and other platforms. Schools often face challenges in understanding and appropriately responding to this complex behavior.
Our Suicide Prevention Coordinator provides expert guidance and support to help schools develop effective prevention and response systems that prioritize student safety and well-being.

How We Can Support Your District...
  • Consultation and coaching on developing or enhancing NSSI prevention protocols and procedures
  • Assistance with creating or refining assessment tools and protocol templates
  • Guidance on best practices for school-based prevention, intervention, and staff response
By building clear, compassionate systems and practices, we help schools respond confidently and consistently when supporting students who engage in self-injury.
*These trainings are supported by county/ grant funding and therefore available at no cost.
