The ParaPro Assessment measures the reading, writing and basic math competencies of practicing and prospective paraprofessionals. In accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, the ParaPro Assessment can be used to certify teacher’s aides and assistants in the instruction of these subjects to school children.

About the ParaPro Assessment

What Is It?

The ParaPro Assessment measures the skills and knowledge in reading, writing and math possessed by prospective and practicing paraprofessionals. It also measures their ability to apply those skills and knowledge when assisting in classroom instruction. It was designed to satisfy the requirements of the federally legislated No Child Left Behind Act.

State legislation requires that paraprofessionals meet one of three criteria to become qualified:
1. Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as 48 semester or 72 quarter hours as verified by college transcript from an accredited institution of higher education*);
OR
2. Obtain an associate (or higher) degree from an accredited institution of higher education (defined as any associate degree program from an accredited institution of higher education*);
OR
3. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through a formal State or local academic assessment — (i) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics; or (ii) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in readiness for reading, writing and mathematics.

Who Takes It?

The test is for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals.

How Long Is It?

Test takers have 2½ hours to complete the test.

What Subjects Are on the Test?

Test subjects include reading, writing and math.

What Are the Questions Like?

The test has 90 multiple-choice questions, approximately two-thirds of which focus on basic skills and knowledge. The remaining one-third focus on applying skills in the classroom.

All test questions are in English.

By registering to attend an event requiring a registration fee, we must receive your cancellation in writing by emailing [email protected] two weeks prior to the event date for a full refund.

If you do not receive a confirmation of cancellation from Debbie Shannon, please follow up with a phone call to her at 440-324-5777 ext 1112.

If you do not cancel, cancel within 2 weeks of the event or do not attend, you/your district will still be responsible for payment.

In the case of emergency or situations out of the ordinary, registrations are transferable to another colleague.
